  • Step 1: Open a browser to log in to the web-based setup page of your range extender.
Step 2: You will be prompted for a Password. If you have changed your password, enter your custom password. Otherwise, enter the default “admin” on the Password field then click Login.
Step 3: On the web-based setup page, click Firmware Upgrade under Administration.
Step 4: There are two (2) methods in upgrading.
Automatic update: The range extender will automatically detect if there is a new available firmware. If there is, click the Update now button to start upgrading the firmware.
To manually update the firmware, click Select a File and select the firmware file that you have downloaded earlier, then click Open.
    Click Save.
The progress of the upgrade process will be shown on the same page. To prevent any problems with the range extender, do not interrupt the upgrade process.

  • The firmware embedded in your range extender implements networking and security protocols on the device. Linksys often releases updates to product firmware to improve the implementation of these functions as well as to patch software flaws and provide new features or enhancements. If you encounter problems when attempting to set up or use your wireless range extender, you can upgrade the firmware as a troubleshooting measure.
1.Browse to Linksys Support (links in Resources) and select the “Downloads” tab.
2.Examine the product sticker on your range extender to see which version you own. If no version number is listed, your model is version 1.
3.Select your version from the drop-down menu on the page and then click “Download” under Firmware.
4.Press “Windows-E” to open File Explorer. Choose “Network” from the left pane.
5.Right-click “RE1000/RE2000” in the right pane and then choose “View Device Webpage” from the context menu to open a new browser window or tab.
6.Enter your username and password into the applicable fields and click “OK” to log in to the range extender.
7.Select “Administration” and “Firmware Upgrade” from the menus. Click “Choose File” and navigate to Libraries\Downloads.
8.Double-click the BIN file you downloaded from the Linksys website, and then click “Start Upgrade” to update the firmware.
