As you have mentioned that You are using a 4 gigabyte computer I must say for normal use its enough memory to get good speed but still You want to add memory to your system then you need to purchase a ram from market as per specification of your computer and get it installed .There are some steps as well through which you can increase the performance of your computer. To increase the speed of your computer you need to follow these steps:-
1. remove temp & prefetch files from system.
2. remove unwanted softwares from computer.

You have enough memory to increase your computer speed
:-First create restore point on computer .
:-Press and hold the win+R button at same time
:-In Run box type sysdm.cpl and click ok.
:-Click system protection
;-Now you can create the restore point.
:-Once restore point is created you can start removing files.
